San Diego Family Law Services

Divorce
- A legal process by which a legal marriage is dissolved by the court. Divorce can be accomplished through litigation, mediation or collaboration.
Child Support
- Monies paid by a parent to another parent or legal guardian to provide for basic necessities of a child. Child support arrearages cannot be discharged by bankruptcy.
Child Sharing
- The court may make orders regarding which parent is entitled to spend what amounts of time with their children.
Spousal Support
- Financial support provided to a spouse after a legal divorce or separation. California's public policy is that each spouse becomes self-sufficient to the best of their ability.
Guardianship
- The process by which a non-parent becomes legally responsible to provide for the health, welfare, and support of a minor child.
Mediation
- The process by which self-represented parties avoid going to court and work together with an attorney to settle the issues involved in their divorce or legal separation. Mediation is generally cheaper than litigation.
Property Division
- California is a community property state. The court generally equally divides all assets and debts acquired during the marriage, regardless of whether title is held in both names or not.
Collaborative Divorce™
- Process by which self-represented parties avoid going to court and work together with a team of professionals to settle the issues involved in their divorce or legal separation. Collaboration is usually cheaper than litigation.
Pre-Marital Agreements
- Agreement entered into prior to marriage regarding how property will be held during marriage and in the event of divorce or legal separation. To be valid, California requires each party have their own attorney and that the agreement not be unconscionable.

- Anne B. Howard, Esq. San Diego family law attorney does mediation, collaborative dissolution ™ and litigation.
- She has extensive background in many aspects of the field, having worn many hats over the years: Escondido family law paralegal, interned as a research attorney for Family Court, worked as a judicial secretary for Family and Juvenile Courts and as an assistant in the Delinquency Drug Court, prior to becoming an associate in a “high-powered” family law litigation firm and then starting her own firm.
- Anne’s also well traveled, having grown up and worked in Bahrain and attended British boarding schools, she’s visited many countries in Europe and the Middle East. Her love is people from all cultures and walks of life.
- Her passion is protecting the children. Anne is Secretary and Treasurer of the Juvenile Court Book Club, Inc., which bring literature to incarcerated youth in an attempt to widen their horizons and show them a different path. She is also involved with the Children At Risk Committee of the San Diego County Bar Association, whose volunteers take a mock trial video program and lecture to grades 4-6 in at-risk schools throughout the County. This nationally-recognized, San Diego-developed, program is designed to increase children’s awareness of the legal system
